Other than purchasing your ticket, there’s nothing that you absolutely have to do before you see a performance – you can just buy a ticket, show up, watch and enjoy.
However, whether you’re a seasoned ballet-goer or a first-timer, a bit of background knowledge can enhance your experience of each production. There are a few easy ways to get a bit of insight.
Free with your ticket to the performance, Ballet Talks take place in the lobby of the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts 45 minutes before every performance. Hosted by ballet experts, they provide interesting insights on the production you are about to see.
Also free, Ballet Notes are guides to the National Ballet's dynamic repertoire. Read them online in advance or in the house programme at the Four Seasons Centre.
When you enter the theatre, the usher will give you a programme. This provides you with details on the performance and interesting articles as well as casting and information on the dancers.
The National Ballet's main website has lots of information to browse. You can see videos and photos of performances as well as rehearsals; read up on the choreographers, set and costume design or composers; and check out the dancers' biographies. Videos of Ballet Talks will be posted online after the opening of a performance.
